    Leadership Prep School’s ESL program is committed to helping all limited English proficient students acquire the necessary skills for academic success so that they can become leaders with excellence in a multicultural and multilingual society. LPS classroom teachers are certified to meet the needs of ESL students within the regular classroom setting.

    The mission of the Leadership Prep School ESL program is to ensure that all language learners achieve high quality, creative education and success linguistically, academically, and cognitively in a supportive environment.

    The goals of the Leadership Prep School ESL program are for the students to:
    • Improve their English proficiency 
    • Transfer concepts and skills into English
    • Attain high levels of academic achievement in language arts and in content subjects

     

    Entry/Exit Criteria:

    • New students are assessed based on their home language survey
    • Then the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) meets to determine qualifications
    • Parental Permission forms are needed for participation in the program; however ALL qualifying students are assessed annually until they meet the state requirements for exiting

      

    ESL Monitoring: Students are monitored annually

    • Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS)
    • State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) or End of Course Exams
    • Measures of Progress (MAP)
    • Oral language proficiency tests
    • Teacher evaluation and input
