Information Nights

LPS and Collin College are proud to partner together for Collin College Dual Credit Informational Nights. The focus of the events is to provide prospective, rising 10th grade, 11th grade, or 12th grade students and families with details regarding Collin College's program. The information nights will provide an explanation of dual credit, share college course expectations, and highlight Collin's dual credit registration process. You may attend the online webinars or the information night presentation at your campus.

Spring 2025 Important Dates
Registration is open! Students approved for dual/concurrent credit for the Spring 2025 semester should be registered for appropriate courses. Payment is due November 21st.

TEST READING/WRITING MATH COMPOSITE TSIA2 CRC 910—944 w/Diagnostic level 5-6 and Essay 5-8 OR CRC 945—990 w/Essay 5-8 CRC 910-950 w/Diagnostic level 6 OR CRC 950-990 - ACT 40 22 - SAT 480 530 - After March 2023, ACT exams scores must meet the following criteria: A student must achieve a combined score of 40 on the English and Reading (E+R) tests to be exempt for both reading and writing or ELAR sections of the TSI Assessment. A student must achieve a minimum score of 22 on the mathematics for an exemption in math. There is no composite score.

Cost Savings
Students and their parents benefit by significantly saving on tuition and fees, while potentially earning up to two years of college credit before graduating from high school.
Tuition at Collin College for a 3-credit hour course is $188 for Collin County residents and $326 for Denton County residents.
At the Fall 2022 rates, a Collin County resident would spend approximately $3,760 in tuition and fees to complete an associate degree, or $6,520 for out-of-county residents.
Students should also anticipate spending approximately $3,000 for books for the entire degree plan. Students receiving LPS Scholarships may have tuition waived. -
Transfer Information
Collin College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and credits transfer seamlessly to public institutions within the state and for many public and private colleges out-of-state. For those continuing with Collin after high school, Collin offers a Pre-Admission Partnership for transfer students to the following schools:

Disability Services
How do I receive services as a dual credit student and does Collin implement services?
Taking a dual credit course means taking a college course, therefore, the student must comply with the college’s disability guidelines. In most instances, if the class is taken at a high school campus, the high school will implement the accommodations that are approved by Collin College. However, if the course is at a Collin College campus, then the college will provide the accommodations. We recommend that you apply for services with ACCESS or Accommodations at Collin College for Equal Support Services as soon as you know you will be signing up for dual credit classes (at least one month before the semester starts).
Steps to Applying for Accommodations
Step 1
Have your Cougar Web ID (CWID) available. This is the 9 digits number you received by email after you applied to Collin College.
Step 2
Go to this link to complete and submit the application. Please upload your documentation (such as a 504 plan) with this application, or email your documentation to ACCESS_Documentation@collin.edu.
Step 3
A representative from the Collin College ACCESS office will contact you by email or phone to discuss the requested accommodations. Please check your Collin College email address for information.
Step 4
You will log onto CougarWeb each semester to send accommodation letters electronically to your professors (instructions will be provided).How does college differ from high school disability services?
In college:
- Students must seek out disability services and request them each semester.
- Modifications (changes) are not provided, only reasonable accommodations (adjustments).
- Services are optional and not mandatory.
- No accommodations are provided without self-disclosure and supportive documentation.
- Parents have limited involvement, and only at the written consent of the student.

FAQs
What is dual credit?
- LPS high school students can take Collin College courses and receive credit both for their high school diploma and their college degree. Courses may be taught on the high school or college campus by Collin College professors. Course offerings are evaluated on a yearly basis for the LPS Dual Credit program.
Can I earn an associate's degree while in high school?
- Yes. Students who are interested in this particular degree should reach out to their Collin College Counselor and High School Academic Advisor to discuss an approach to completing this degree plan.

What is concurrent credit?
- This is when a student earns college credit only for a college course taught on the college campus.
What approvals does a student need before enrolling in a dual credit class?
- Approval from the academic advisor is required for both dual and concurrent credit.
Will Collin College dual credit transfer to universities?
- College credit will transfer to most colleges or universities. Please visit Collin’s TransferU for more information.
Who can participate?
- Students enrolled in LPS high school who are ready to acquire college credit. Students must also have permission from the appropriate academic advisor, an A/B grade point average is recommended, meet Texas Success Initiative standards and demonstrate the maturity level needed to be successful in college course work.
How does enrollment in dual credit courses impact GPA?
- Weighted grade points are awarded for successful completion of a dual credit course. Specifically, regular courses allow you to obtain a maximum point total of 5.0, dual credit earns a maximum point total of 5.5, and AP earns a maximum point total of 6.0 through the class of 2026. Starting with the class of 2027, dual credit will earn a maximum point total of 6.0 along with AP.
Are there any federal student aid consequences for taking dual credit courses?
- High school students who are dual enrolled with Collin College and earn college credits for core coursework have no consequences in regards to federal student aid. Having dual credits does not lower a student’s eligibility. All Pell-eligible students can receive up to six full-time Pell awards.
What are my options?
- Courses are offered in many disciplines including Economics, English, Government, History, Math, Science, Psychology, Speech, and Fine Arts. A variety of technical and workforce programs are also available for dual and concurrent enrollment.
What are the requirements to teach an academic dual-credit course?
- Courses are taught by college instructors and/or high school teachers who have a master’s degree and 18 hours in the subject area being taught.

The Dual Credit program offers many support structures to help students succeed. Please always start with your academic advisor. They know your four-year plan!
You may also reach out for additional support through your campus Collin College Counselor, Collin College Advisors, Special Admissions Coordinator, and LPS Administrative Personnel.
Additional Dual Credit Considerations

In addition to admission requirements, there are other factors to consider when determining whether dual credit is a good, academic fit for a student:
- LPS does not provide transportation to nor from the college or partner campuses. It is the responsibility of the student and/or family to transport the student.
- These are college courses, and professors will only speak to the student.
- All correspondence from the college is in the students’ college email account and/or Canvas, not their LPS account. Students must check these regularly.
- If you fail a course (below 70%), you will not be permitted to take any additional dual credit classes in the same content area.
- College courses do not average pass with one another (Ex: ENGL 1301 grade cannot be averaged with ENGL 1302 for average passing for the year.)
- Curriculum and grading are at the professors’ discretion and not under the purview of LPS.
- Grades are a part of the permanent college transcript and cannot be removed nor changed.
- LPS does not have access to grades until they are provided by the college and posted.
- If you do not meet the dual credit deadlines outlined by LPS, you will not be permitted to participate in dual credit.
- If you register for the wrong course (non-dual credit section/non-approved course), you may be removed and placed in the appropriate section or be unable to earn the credit.
- In the event there is low enrollment in dual credit classes, Collin College will move students to ensure dual credit classes will not be canceled. This requires moving students from one class to another. Counselors try to select courses offered at the same time and location.
- Students requests for preferred professors cannot be granted
- If LPS is closed, that does not mean that the college classes are closed. Refer back to your college syllabi and college Canvas for attendance requirements and other information.
